I won't cover all features, but I think instead of doing a full blown review on the product, I'm going to add some incremental reviews on features as I discover, otherwise the vast featureset will end up causing nothing but writer's block and I'll never share anything (cause I'll be busy learning) Catalog - Replaces Favorites with additional funtionality There is just that that much to learn! Over time, I'm finding myself less frustrated by using it, and more amazed at the tweaks here and there that can be found that can greatly enchance one's file management and workflow, personal and professional. This is almost like stepping from a text editor for editing code to a full blown visual studio IDE. I honestly think that I'll never really know all of them, as this is more than just a swiss knife for file management. It is complicated, but with this complication comes an extremely robust set of features. It is a developer's tool first and foremost. That's where I stood with XYPlorer for sometime. Suprisingly, I've found it incredibly challenging to move away from the default Windows Explorer for file management, as the familarity it offers makes it somewhat tough to be patient with learning an alternative, especially if the alternative offers more complication. Compiled to the music of The Sweet.I'm a big fan of finding tools that help automate and streamline things that should are routine actions. This format has been improved to take even less horizontal space in the Size column. Now the dialog has a Most Recently Used (MRU) list. Now the Quick Audio Preview supports MIDI files. Now the current path pin is drawn fatter than the others. If you are feeling lucky and bored at the same time you can use it to shuffle your image, sound, or video collections. There is a new dice shaped button on the toolbar. Having a hard time hitting the name of a short named file? Now you have the option to use the full width of the name column as click target. Quite useful to quickly browse through the currently selected items while giving the mouse a rest. Now you can assign a keyboard shortcut of your choice to each of two new commands that move the focus to the next or previous selected item. you can show only those items with 12 or less characters in the name, or only items longer than 259 characters. Now you can filter the file list by the item name lengths. ![]() you can show only those photos with a certain aspect ratio, or only those MP3s from a certain artist. Now you can filter the file list by each of the hundreds of available item properties. ![]() If you're looking for a new file management tool for Windows, make it XYplorer.Įditors' note: This is a review of the trial version of XYplorer 15.00. Trial limitations: XYplorer's free trial version has minor limitations but is otherwise fully functional, though we couldn't find anything disabled during our trial. ![]() Similar freeware: Freeware with similar capabilities to XYplorer isn't hard to find. Recent Locations: Clicking Recent Locations shows where you've been on your PC - very handy for troubleshooting, cleanup, and other PC maintenance. And that's just trees - the same applies to Folders, Toolbars, and just about everything else in XYplorer. For example, the Customize Tree tool offers ten options, plus there's a Mini Tree, Lock Tree command, and much more. You may already have a notion of what you'd wish Windows could do.Ĭustomizable: Many tools can be customized, but few match XYplorer's options. Super Explorer: XYplorer's outward resemblance to Windows Explorer is obvious, but that makes it easier to learn how to use it. It adds searching, previews, favorites, hotlists, scripting, shortcuts, and many more options for organizing, managing, and accessing your files and folders. In fact, there seems to be little about XYplorer that can't be customized. XYplorer builds on the basic and familiar Explorer layout of main window, sidebar, and toolbar, with many customizable features like tabs and tree views. ![]()
